Our Radiology and Imaging department is equipped to look inside the body in different ways, from a simple X-ray to a detailed MRI scan, so that the treating doctor has an accurate picture before deciding on the next step.

An X-ray remains one of the quickest ways to check for fractures, chest infections, or joint problems. Our digital X-ray machines produce a sharp image within minutes, which means treatment decisions don't have to wait. The process itself takes only a few minutes and involves very little radiation.

Ultrasound is a safe, painless way to look at the abdomen, pelvis, or a developing pregnancy without any radiation at all, which is why it's used so widely, including in expectant mothers. A gel is applied to the skin, and a probe is passed over the area, and the images appear on screen almost instantly. It helps detect gallstones, kidney stones, cysts, and a range of other conditions, and is often the next step after a blood test or X-ray raises a question.

Color Doppler builds on regular ultrasound by showing how blood flows through arteries and veins, using colour to indicate direction and speed. It's commonly used to check for blockages in leg veins, narrowing in neck arteries, or blood supply issues in various organs. The test is non-invasive and usually takes twenty to thirty minutes. For patients with swelling, varicose veins, or suspected clots, this often gives the clearest answer without needing anything more invasive.

A CT scan gives far more detail than a plain X-ray, building cross-sectional images that let the doctor see organs, bones, and soft tissue layer by layer. Our Philips 128-Slice scanner completes most scans in a matter of minutes, which matters a great deal in emergencies like suspected internal bleeding or stroke. It's also used for planned evaluations of the chest, abdomen, and bones.

When there's concern about narrowed or blocked blood vessels, whether in the heart, brain, or legs, CT angiography gives a detailed map using a contrast dye injected into a vein. It avoids the need for a more invasive procedure in many cases and is often used to plan further treatment. The scan itself is quick, though you may feel a brief warm sensation as the dye moves through the body.

High-resolution CT of the chest picks up fine detail in lung tissue that a regular X-ray often misses, which is why it's used for conditions like persistent cough, breathlessness, or suspected interstitial lung disease. It's particularly useful for patients recovering from severe chest infections, including those with lingering effects after pneumonia.

For head injuries, sudden severe headaches, or suspected spinal problems, a CT of the brain and spine gives quick, detailed images that help rule out bleeding, fractures, or other urgent issues. It's often the first imaging test ordered in the emergency room because it's fast and widely available. For planned cases, such as chronic back pain or nerve-related symptoms, it adds useful information alongside a clinical examination.

MRI uses magnetic fields rather than radiation to build detailed images of soft tissue, which makes it especially useful for the brain, spine, joints, and abdomen. Our GE 1.5 Tesla MRI system is suited to a wide range of conditions, from slipped discs to ligament tears to certain tumours. The scan can take anywhere from twenty minutes to over an hour depending on what's being examined, and it's completely painless.

Beyond standard imaging, MRI can also be used to examine blood vessels without the need for X-ray dye, which is helpful for patients who cannot tolerate contrast agents used in CT. Specialised MRI sequences are also available for particular organs or conditions where extra detail is needed, as decided by the treating specialist.

Some diagnostic and minor procedures are safer and more accurate when performed with imaging guidance, allowing the doctor to see exactly where a needle or instrument is placed. This is used for certain biopsies, fluid drainage, or targeted injections, reducing the guesswork involved. These procedures are usually done with local anaesthesia, and patients are often able to go home the same day.
